AUBURN – Patricia A. Charest, 80, of Lewiston, died peacefully early Tuesday, Oct. 28, surrounded by her family at the Androscoggin Hospice House.
She was born on March 14, 1928, in Bangor, the daughter of Irene and George T. McCarthy. She attended Lewiston schools and remained a lifelong resident of the community. On July 18, 1953, she married the love of her life, Roger Charest, who predeceased her Aug. 12.
Her first passion in life was her family and her grandchildren. She loved to garden and dance, yet her favorite sport and accomplishment was bowling. She and her husband, Roger, both met several of their lifelong friends through this sport.
Throughout the years, she was a member of several women’s and mixed couples leagues and won many awards. She also had the honor of serving on the Twin City Bowling Association as secretary for more than 25 years and in 1983 was inducted into the Twin City Bowling Hall of Fame. Even recently, she was still being called upon for advice on the rules and regulations of the game.
She had a 50-year career making shoes and was always striving to improve efficiencies and streamline processes. She took great pride in her work and did her best to keep jobs in America by working smarter than the low-wage foreign competition; passing on these traits and principles to her children and their families.
She leaves two daughters, Sandra Charest-Davall and husband, Gregory and Tammy Klemanski and husband, Michael; grandchildren, Darcie, Desirae, Joey, Alex, Melissa, Zachary and Bailey; brothers, George McCarthy and wife, Lorraine and Edward McCarthy; sisters, Dorothy Lussier, Irene Chipman, Mary Cavers, Lorraine Ouellette and husband, Robert and Gloria May; and many nieces and nephews.
