SABATTUS – A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Romeo “Chuck” Poirier was held Friday at Our Lady of The Rosary Church after prayers at the Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home. The Rev. Lionel Chouinard celebrated the Mass and Deacon Dean Lachance recited committal prayers at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. Before Mass Mr. Poirier’s immediate family placed the burial pall on his casket. Readers were Chuck’s granddaughter, Dawn Ouellette and Chuck’s daughter, Sheryl Ouellette. Prayer of the faithful was read by Chuck’s son, Dick Coulombe. The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Chuck’s grandchildren, Tyler and Sydney Sirois. Words of remembrance were shared by Chuck’s children, Dick Coulombe, Lorrie Sirois, Sheryl Ouellette, Claire Langlais and Linda Guerette. After church the funeral procession paused at the Poirier family residence in Sabattus where Chuck’s children placed their father’s hockey skates, and hockey stick floral arrangements at home in his honor. The pallbearers were David Langlais, Craig and Garrett Coulombe, Aaron and Erik Ouellette, Jason and Ethan Guerette as well as William Rines. After committal prayers the U.S. Army honor detail played “taps” and presented our country’s flag to Chuck’s wife, Lorraine in recognition of her husband’s service to his country during World War II. Then all were invited to a luncheon reception at the Chick-a-Dee Restaurant in Lewiston.
