Duke Dulac, an Augusta barber who says he’s accurately predicted elections since 1973 by polling his clients, said it’s going to be John McCain who wins the White House on Nov. 4.
A local broadcaster asked Dulac whether he had more Republican customers than Democrats. He said no.
“Democrats just don’t get their hair cut that often,” Dulac said.
He said he has polled more than 200 customers at Duke’s Barbershop over the past several weeks. The results for the state’s other big questions?
According to Dulac: Question 1 passed 151-64, reversing the tax on beverages to provide alternative funding for DirigoHealth; Question 2 was narrowly defeated 113-110, against the Oxford County casino proposal; and Question 3 passed 111-94, approving bond expenditures for sewer and water projects.
Duke’s Barbershop is in the state’s 1st Congressional District, where Republican Charlie Summers defeated Democrat Chellie Pingree, according to Dulac, and for U.S. Senate, Republican Susan Collins defeated Democrat Tom Allen.

War of the mayors
It’s a game of tit-for-tat.
On Wednesday morning in Auburn, Republican incumbent Sen. Susan Collins held a press conference announcing that current Auburn Mayor John Jenkins, an Independent, and Lewiston Mayor Larry Gilbert, a Democrat, were formally endorsing her.
Also made available by Collins’ staff was a ‘partial’ list of 18 other mayors from around the state who support Collins. The list, unsurprisingly, included Collins’ parents, who are both former mayors of Caribou.
On Thursday, Democratic Senate nominee Tom Allen’s campaign sent out a press release with the names of more mayors. These had picked him as the best candidate.
On his list? John Orestis and Paul Dionne of Lewiston, and Dick Trafton of Auburn, all Democrats.
So, if there are any more former Twin Cities mayors out there looking to see their names in print again, let us know who your pick is. Time is running out!
According to the brownie poll …
Simply Divine Brownies, a company based in Freeport/Brunswick, has been informally conducting it’s own presidential poll.
Earlier this week the company announced its Barack Obama brownies are selling by a 3-to-1 ratio over its John McCain brownies. The brownies are hand cut from the Simply Divine brownie base and double-dipped in white chocolate before getting imprinted with a digital image of the presidential nominees and individually packaged.
You can cast your brownie vote as many times as you want without committing a felony by ordering from www.simplydivinebrownies.com.
