WESTFIELD, Mass. (AP) – A Westfield mother and her 9-year-old son were hit and killed by a car while trick-or-treating on Halloween.
Police said 47-year-old Roberta Salois and her son Steven Smith-Salois were trying to cross South Maple Street on Friday at about 8 p.m. when they were hit by a car driven by Anne Schlichtig of Westfield.
Salois was pronounced dead at Noble Hospital. Her son died at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
The 26-year-old Schlichtig was not hurt. She has been questioned by police, but no charges have been filed and the crash remained under investigation.
Police said the mother and son were wearing dark clothing on a street with dark sidewalks.
