NORTH CONWAY, N.H. (AP) – It took him more than half a century, but a North Conway, N.H., man has reached his goal of hiking all the trails in New Hampshire’s White Mountains.

Tony Federer started keeping track of his hikes in the late 1940s, intent on hiking every trail in the 600-page Appalachian Mountain Club White Mountain Guide. About five years ago, he started feeling like he could make it.

By the time he finished in July, he had hiked more than 1,400 miles. He says when people ask him what’s next, he tells them, “hikes that other people want to do.”
