The Family Birthplace at Stephens Memorial Hospital is a hit with siblings-to-be. At the latest class, big sister-to-be Marie West learned how to help parents with easy chores, talk about her feelings about the upcoming birth, safe sharing and making her own space. She demonstrates skills she learned to her mom, Rachel.

Sibling classes being offered for new year

NORWAY – The Family Birthplace at Stephens Memorial Hospital has announced that sibling preparation classes for big brothers- and sisters-to-be will be held the following dates in 2009: Jan. 10, March 14, May 9, July 11, Sept. 12 and Nov. 14.

The classes will run from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the board room at the hospital.

Carol Welsh, RN, perinatal education coordinator for the Family Birthplace, is the facilitator of the class, which focuses on helping kids learn how to become a big brother or sister through role playing. For more information or to register a child for the class, parents may call the Family Birthplace at 743-1562, ext. 380. There is no charge for the class.
