NORWAY – Teens can make a difference this Thanksgiving by reading for food pledges from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Norway Memorial Library.

The Teen Read-A-Thon for Hunger and Homelessness will benefit the Oxford Hills Food Pantry. Teens who want to participate will agree to read for up to two and a half hours and ask donors to sponsor them with pledges of canned or packaged food, such as juices, tuna, crackers, soups and canned vegetables.

On the afternoon of the Read-A-Thon, teens should go with pillows, blankets and books; the library will also provide books, magazines and munchies.

To participate, teens should register and pick up a pledge form at the library’s info desk or e-mail [email protected] to receive a form by e-mail. The program is open to all Oxford Hills teens in grades seven to 12.

For more information, call 743-5309.

The Read-A-Thon is being held in support of the National Coalition for the Homeless and the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness, which co-sponsor a National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week every year before Thanksgiving. This year’s observance will be Nov. 16 to 22.
