PORTLAND – Normand P. Ouellette, 64, of Shore Road, Windham, died on Oct. 30, at a Portland hospital.

He was born in Lewiston, on July 5, 1944, the son of Theodore and Noella (Morin) Ouellette and was raised and educated in Lewiston.

After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving from 1963 until 1967. During that time, he served aboard the cutter Yankton out of South Portland and was involved in many patrols and ice breaking missions. He was also one of the last crew to serve as a lighthouse keeper at the Mt. Desert Rock Lighthouse.

On Aug. 27, 1966, he married Jane D. McAvoy. This past August, they celebrated their 42nd anniversary together.

He began employment at Fairchild Semiconductor in 1967, transitioning to National Semiconductor in the early 1990s. He retired from there on Dec. 1, 1999, after 32 years of dedicated service.

A clever man, he enjoyed building things such as black powder rifles and model ships. He loved the ocean, wooden boats and was a voracious reader, sometimes reading numerous books in a day. He enjoyed working on and with computers, was an avid storyteller and according to his son, was very politically-engaged. Most of all, he was a family-centered man who loved to spend time with his wife, son, daughters and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Jane D. Ouellette of Windham; one son, Normand Theodore Ouellette and his wife, Kelly, of Windham; three daughters, Jennifer L. Potter and her husband, Kemp, of Lincoln and Ashley E. Ouellette and Karri J. Ouellette, both of Windham; one brother, Raymond Ouellette of Lewiston; four sisters, Jeannette Picard, Irene Ouellette and Jolene Guenette, all of Lewiston, and Rachel Parent of Leeds; and his six grandchildren, Garrett, Mackenzie, Griffin, Dane, Gabriel and Breylee.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Doris Ouellette.
