SCARBOROUGH (AP) – A machine error in Scarborough has voided all absentee ballots, and the recount could take until Wednesday.
Town Clerk Tody Justice says absentee ballots from 6,586 voters had been tabulated with only about a dozen or so to go when the machine failed.
Justice says workers will re-run the ballots all night, but she doesn’t expect to report results before late Wednesday morning.
That’s because the state requires municipalities to count absentee ballots before they can run Tuesday’s ballots.
Among other things, residents are voting on whether to allow the Scarborough Downs harness racing track to have slot machines.
