People were given some very simple rules that, if followed, all other laws could be erased.

There are some people who seem to think it is a threat to them if those rules are displayed in public. It seems to me that is because of the first commandment that says there is one God, and there should be no other gods or idols.

Simply put: Worship God; use his name reverently; observe a sabbath day; honor parents; do not kill; do not commit adultery; do not steal, do not lie about a neighbor; and do not covet a neighbor’s things or spouse.

Jesus put them all together in two commandments: “Love god with your whole heart,” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If everyone obeyed those two commandments, the world would be a better place. There would be no greed, lust, murder, etc.

Instead of those simple rules, laws have been written that need lawyers to interpret them, and a government that takes a three-page idea and bloats it into a 452-page law with more pork than Auburn’s city farm ever had.

Even the politicians who claim to be Christians can’t obey the rules with each other so they can accomplish deeds that are good for the country.

God created people with the ability to choose how to act. We know both right and wrong. Let us choose to do right.

Pray for our government.
