AUBURN – The Woman’s Literary Union will open its doors to the community at the Winterberry Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the clubhouse, 19 Elm St.

It provides an opportunity for the community to enter the former mansion of Horatio and Ella Foss, which is on the National Registry of Historic Homes.

The union works to preserve the architectural and historic home for the Lewiston/Auburn community, and fundraising is ongoing to assure that the house will remain a historical and aesthetic landmark for the Twin Cities.

The fair will feature tables with baked items, jewelry, knit and stitched craft items and boutique gifts. These tables will be located in the main meeting room and will offer a variety of items for fall and holiday decorating, holiday gift-giving, as well as jewelry and homebaked goods.

The Potting Shed, located in the library, will feature berry bowls, bunches of winterberries, bird houses, plants and gourds for sale.

The solarium will feature a Doll Boutique with a variety of doll clothing for 18-inch dolls, including party dresses, coats and hats, and pajamas as well as doll beds with mattresses, pillows, bedding and quilts. The items have been handfashioned by the membership of the WLU and WLU After Dark clubs.

Raffles will be set up in the downstairs foyer. They include a $100 grocery gift card; a rose quartz beaded necklace; an original painting by local artist, Melanie Ness; and a holiday basket created by Charlene LeClair. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.

The dining room will offer tea in the Winterberry Cafe, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will offer homemade breakfast items, including cinnamon rolls, a variety of coffeecakes, muffins and scones served with strawberry jam, homemade lemon curd or butter.

A lunch will be offered from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a variety of traditional English tea sandwiches served with chips and pickle. Beverages being offered are apple juice, lemonade, coffee and tea served in individual teapots. There will be a variety of desserts. The wait staff will be comprised of teens and young adults from the community.
