BRUNSWICK (AP) – Patients in the surgical unit and maternity ward at Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick got their chance to vote Tuesday – even from their hospital beds.

Six patients at the hospital wanted to cast their ballots even though they were in the hospital for medical conditions.

Greg Howard of the Brunswick Democratic Town Committee says he and another person delivered the absentee ballots to give the patients the chance to vote. They then delivered the ballots to election officials to be tallied.

Howard says it’s important to give all residents the opportunity to vote on Election Day, even if they’re in a hospital.
