DIXFIELD – With nearly 13,000 votes in Senate District 14, incumbent Sen. Bruce S. Bryant was re-elected Tuesday to his fourth and final term due to term limits.
The Dixfield Democrat garnered 12,936 votes while his opponent, Buckfield Town Manager Glen Holmes, tallied 6,982 votes from the district’s 29 towns and townships in Franklin and Oxford counties.
Contacted on Wednesday afternoon by phone, Bryant said he was grateful that voters want him to continue working on their behalf.
“I am honored that my constituents have given me a fourth term,” Bryant, a 47-year-old paper mill worker at NewPage Inc. in Rumford, said.
“I am very appreciative of the fact that the voters have confidence in me. My fourth term will be a rough session, what with working on a reduction in the (state) budget and, hopefully, getting some good things done at the same time.”
Bryant took all but Hebron, Lincoln and Magalloway plantations, and Upton. Buckfield voters even supported him over Holmes, 550-527.
“That says a lot when you can win your opponent’s town. I will try to continue to do my best to represent my district,” he added.
Holmes, who was out retrieving his political signs Wednesday, was unavailable for comment.
