I had the opportunity to vote nice and early on Election Day, but found myself disappointed and disturbed over the fact that I was able to walk in and cast my vote without being required to show any proof of identification.

Lewiston, being somewhat of a college town with Bates College in its midst, is an incubator of voter fraud just waiting for a hatching. With hundreds of transient Bates students of voting age, there is tremendous potential for voter shenanigans that could easily affect the outcome of most any election, but particularly, those involving local issues.

I can’t cash a $40 check at my own bank without being required to show some form of picture identification; and no, I’m not that suspicious looking. Yet, I can walk into a voting place and get to vote, no questions asked, except for name and address.

Anyone could have gotten my name and address out of a phone book and fraudulently voted under the guise of being me before I got there, making me the fraudulent voter upon arrival.

In that scenario, it isn’t hard to guess who would have ended up in handcuffs.

Come on, tighten up. No photo ID, no vote.
