PROSPECT (AP) – The owners of a restaurant that was razed to make way for the Penobscot Narrows Bridge will receive $725,000 to settle a lawsuit.
The Maine Department of Transportation took the Sail Inn and five acres of land by eminent domain when it began construction of the bridge in 2003. The brothers who own the restaurant didn’t contest the decision initially, but they challenged the monetary offer from the state.
Later, Paul and Robert Dyer challenged the taking of the property, but the state supreme court ruled against them in June.
On Thursday, the DOT and the brothers announced the settlement.
It said both parties believe the settlement is fair to both parties.
