RUMFORD – Warren W. Knox, 85, of Peru, died early Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the Rumford Hospital.

He was born on July 27, 1923, in Peru, the son of Madelyn and Herbert Knox. He attended schools in Peru and at Goodwill Hinkley.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II in the Philippines from 1942 to 1945 just after having gone to work at Diamond Match in 1941. He retired from Diamond Match in 1988 after 47 years of service.

A man of great faith, he enjoyed walks in the woods, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Phyllis (Hussey) Knox of Peru, whom he married in Canton on Oct. 24, 1947; children, Cindi Hanmer and her husband, James, of Dixfield, Rachel Meisner of Mexico and Tim Knox and his wife, Carrie, of Mexico; eight grandchildren, Travis Hanmer, Jared Hanmer and his wife, Amanda, Shira Waite and her husband, Mike, Sheena Hanmer, Ben Meisner, Josh Meisner, Andy Knox and Audrie Knox; three great-grandchildren, Cody and Caleb Hanmer and Lana Waite; and four siblings, Everdine Best of Augusta, Kathleen Smith of New York, Geneva Goddard of Florida, and Dorothy Emery of Hanover.

He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Kerry Meisner; and siblings, Blandine Falkenham, Thelma Horne, June Moody and Herbert Knox.
