CANTON – Mildred “Millie” Sechak, 88, formerly of Swain Brook Apartments and the Muskie Building, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Victorian Villa in Canton.
She was born on Oct. 17, 1920, a daughter of John and Alice (Shimko) Hudak.
Millie was a graduate of Newport Township High School in Glen Lyon, Pa., and attended Grace Dodge School of Business in New York City for two years.
She is a New York native and was an expert with bead work for clothing. While in New York, she did bead work on dresses for a number of famous people including Pat Nixon, Marilyn Monroe, and Greer Garson as well as Lynda Byrd and Lucy Baines Johnson and the gowns of Lady Byrd Johnson.
While living in New York, Mrs. Sechak and her husband, Stephen, owned a restaurant in Larchmont, N.Y., employing 78 people, and spent their summers traveling extensively.
Millie was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and St. Athanasius & St. John Catholic Church.
She was an active volunteer and was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Rumford Park Commission, Rumford Planning Board, the Rumford Historical Society and was also a literacy tutor.
She is survived by her grandson, Stephen Sechak, of Albany, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Dr. Joseph Buckley, of Mountain Top, Pa.; and two granddaughters, Desiree Sechak and Christina Sechak.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen Sechak; a son, Stephen Sechak; an infant daughter, Patricia; three brothers, Michael, John and Fred Hudak; and two sisters, Margaret Buckley and Hannah Chopak.
