AUBURN – Richard A. Davis of Monmouth died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, after a long battle with cancer.

Richard served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force as an air traffic controller holding positions as controller, crew chief, craning and standardization NCO, FAA examiner, and chief controller of both control tower and radar approach control facilities. He was awarded the first Senior Air Traffic Controller Badge in the Air Force and holds the distinction of receiving the first FAA Merit Citation Award for the safe recovery of a civilian aircraft in distress.

He held positions as maintenance manager for several municipalities and for the state of Maine.

Richard is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Lois D. Davis, of Monmouth; his daughter, Lisa M. Davis Shorey of Caribou; and son, Richard L. Davis of Rockland. He also leaves a granddaughter, Heather M. Shorey, of Groton, Conn.; and a grandson, Brynn Davis of Rockland.
