This is to clarifiy the Sun Journal’s article Nov. 6, “No action on program cuts,” which describes Ron Potvin’s efforts to eliminate the alternative middle school and two special education programs in Auburn, as well as his disagreement with the recommendations of the Facilities Masterplan Subcommittee.
Potvin, as the mayor’s representative to the School Committee, was also a member of the Facilities Masterplan Subcommittee. He attended only two of the eight meetings (without explaining his absences). Had he attended those meetings, he would not only have had input into the final recommendation, but may also have benefited from an in-depth discussion of the merits of the programs he now proposes to eliminate.
