On Wednesday, October 6, the sophomore class of Monmouth Academy attended a rendition of the infamous play “Julius Caesar,” written by none other than the great Shakespeare himself. The play was put on by the Portland Stage Company and a grant through NEA, making it possible for us to attend. My classmates thoroughly enjoyed the play whether we liked listening to the old language or watching blood fly. It wasn’t a dull performance, to say the least.
By the end of the two parts, we were all buzzing about what we had seen. Not everyone was sure what it meant, but putting a visual to the words really helped some students. While others were enjoying the mere fact that there was, in fact, red Jello as the blood used in fight scenes, we all learned something. We would all like to thank the actors for their astounding performances and hope that other schools across the country are able to have similar experiences granted to them.
