After reading Mark LaFlamme’s “Talk of the Town” column Nov. 7, I’m refreshed to know that he did not think I was the one who dropped off a bag of witchcraft books on his desk while he was on vacation.
Over the years, the two of us have conducted a good-natured and sometimes humorous debate over the topic of Halloween, witchcraft and the occult. I regret not dueling with my newspaper foe during this ghoulish season, but my ministry was very busy during the month of October promoting National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, so I did not have time to get caught up in all the cobwebs.
Contrary to public opinion, I do enjoy some of LaFlamme’s stories, and I emphasize, some. I’m sure that somewhere behind the tombstones there lies a very nice and well-meaning man, even if he does wear fake fangs at times.
I expect that the two of us will go toe to toe again, and our debate will continue well into the future, or until he takes up my views concerning the dark side.
When, and if, that day ever comes, I hope he invites me to his book burning.
The Rev. Douglas Taylor, Lewiston
