BRUNSWICK – Raymond F. Goss, 70, lifelong resident of Bowdoinham Road, Lisbon Falls, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Parkview Adventist Medical Center, after a courageous battle with heart disease.
He was born Aug. 31, 1938, in the city of Lewiston, to the late Howard and Annie (Smith) Goss. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Lisbon High School, Class of 1958.
He worked for many years as a farmer on the home farm as well as at the local Ricker, Smith, and Bowie farms. He loved working with the animals and had a special way with them. He worked as a groundskeeper for local cemeteries in the towns of Lisbon and Bowdoin.
His nickname in high school was “Sunshine,” a name that reflected his sunny, good-natured outlook.
He enjoyed telling a good story, and spoke fondly of large family gatherings; hunting and fishing trips with his brothers, his high school trip to Washington, D.C., and his classmates and their shenanigans. He often reminisced fondly about each of his nieces and nephews and their families.
He frequently stood at his mailbox, where he loved to watch the birds and wildlife, and wave to friends who passed by.
In his earlier years, he loved fishing the local brooks, playing baseball, and attending the local fairs, giving many a ride to neighboring teens and friends to the Litchfield, Lewiston and Topsham fairs.
He enjoyed playing pool with his nephew and friends and often played croquet with the kids in the neighborhood. He was loved and will be missed by many whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his sister, Leona Carville of Lisbon Falls; a brother, Roland Goss of Pownal; several nieces, nephews and other relatives; and many friends including special friends made while residing these past four months at the Freeport Nursing and Rehabilitative Center.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Wesley Goss.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude and thanks to Lisbon Emergency, Dr. Schwartz and the staff at Parkview Adventist Medical Center, especially Joyce and Dennis for their compassionate and caring interventions and support; along with the staff at Freeport Nursing and Rehabilitative Center for their exceptional care and warm, loving, family-style nurturing; Ray cherished his time spent there.
