New to Leavitt is the program, Student Of The Quarter. This award program recognizes students more than just academically. This gives students who are polite, caring, a positive influence, and students who’ve made great strides towards self-improvement a chance to get recognized.

The math department thought up the idea to recognize these students and is sponsored by the Leavitt Area High School Trustees. All the teachers nominate a student from each grade level they think deserves this award. During a faculty meeting, teachers/staff pitch their nominated student to the rest of the teachers. After all the teachers are heard, they take a vote on which ones they think deserve it the most for that quarter. Everything’s kept a secret who the winners are, until the next assembly.

The winners for Student Of The Quarter receive two 10 dollar certificates, one from Antigoni’s and one from Schrepp’s. They get a $2.50 certificate to the school cafeteria. They receive a Leavitt bumper sticker and Student Of The Quarter pass which is just like a High Honors pass. They also receive an engraved plaque and a reserved parking spot.

Each student will get their picture taken and it will be put on display in a glass cabinet in the main lobby for the whole year. Thank you math department and Leavitt Trustees for giving the rest of the students a chance to shine!

This quarter’s students are, bottom, left to right: Joe Mclafferty (Freshman), Courtney Curtis (Sophomore), Jennifer Valley (Junior), Josh Fournier (Senior).
