AUBURN – The Auburn Public Library will host an “Energy 911” conference, offering emergency and long-term energy information to residents of Androscoggin County from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at the library.

The public is invited to this free event to collect handouts and speak one on one with officials who can address heating concerns. The event is sponsored by Northeast Bank and the city of Auburn.

Mayor John Jenkins will be on hand to sign people up for his Neighbors Keepers program, and will offer information on how the city can help if a renter or homeowner has a problem with heat. Community Concepts will talk about LIHEAP, the federal program that qualifies low-income residents for a number of services, and about Keep ME Warm, the state plan for households with children under age 2 or seniors.

The Auburn Fire Department will speak about heating safety, and Maine Partners for Cool Communities will suggest ways to “go green” and save money at the same time. SeniorsPlus will be on hand to do a benefits checkup with older adults to make sure they are signed up for programs that will help them save money.

To make sure that residents don’t forgo their prescriptions in order to afford heat, Consumers for Affordable Health Care will provide information on prescription coverage options. The Auburn Public Library will take names of those who would like free budget counseling from Northeast Bank.
