NORWAY – Ada Lillie Cotton Cummings, 88, of Bethel died Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 8 p.m. at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

She was born on Oct. 2, 1920, to Ray and Annie (Gibbs) Cotton in Bowdinham. She was raised by Walter and Ada Balentine. She attended schools in Bethel and graduated from Gould Academy, Class of 1938. She married Philip Cummings on Aug. 28, 1949. Through their married life, they traveled between Maine and New Jersey. She held many jobs, but loved being a beautician.

She was a member of Purity Chapter Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron of that Chapter five times. She held a dual membership with Jefferson Chapter of Bryant Pond and was a Past District Deputy.

In New Jersey, she joined the Order of the Amaranth. She was Worthy Matron, then Grand Royal Matron and in 1984 to 1985 served as Supreme Royal Matron. During this term, she traveled all over the world. She was a member of the Locke Mills Union Church.

After retirement, she returned to their family-built log home on the lake in Bryant Pond. She will be remembered for her smile, loving hospitality, home cooking and her love of family and friends.

She is survived by a son, Milan and wife, Lois Conner, of New Jersey; their daughters, Laura Alexander and granddaughter, Orea, Pamela and Ray England and grandchildren, Kyla and Samantha, Rhonda and Richard Claffey, grandchildren Conner and Alana; two daughters of Bethel, Macky and husband, Howard Chapman, their son, Nick and wife, Tasha, and grandchildren, Keaton and Emma Lilly; Debbie and husband, Owen Brown, grandchildren, Tracy and husband, Toby Walker, and great-grandchildren, John and Toby Jr., Jake and wife, Lori Swick, and grandchildren, Isabel and John, and grandchildren, Kim and Allan Brown; she held a special place in her heart for her many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years; grandsons, Vince Chapman and Vance Conner; and son-in-law, John Swick.
