FARMINGTON – Gladys L. Tetreault, “Nanny,” 96, a resident of Pinewood Terrace, Farmington, formerly of East Wilton, died late Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
She was bon Nov. 10, 1912, in Wilton, the daughter of Wallace C. and Beulah (Wilson) Dakin. She received her education in Wilton schools.
She married George Tetreault. Together they served as foster parents and also owned Tate’s Grill on the Lake Road in Wilton, where she was well-known for her good cooking. She also sold pies at the Wilton Woolen Mill.
In addition to being a homemaker, she was employed at Frary’s Wood Turning in Dryden, the Wilton Woolen Mill and later at G.H. Bass Shoe Co.
Nanny was a member of Wilson Grange. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family, caring for her pets and enjoying her home, the family farm in East Wilton, where she lived from 1950 until June of this year.
Survivors include one son, Norman Leavitt and his wife, Leona, of Wilton; five grandchildren, Suzanne Mosher and her husband, Michael, of Chesterville, Cathy Cyr and her companion, Jerry Snow, of Winthrop, David Leavitt and his wife, Kristi, of East Wilton, Lisa LePage and her husband, Dean, of Limerick and Kelley Watkins and her husband, David, of Pembroke, N.H.; a granddaughter-in-law, Bev Leavitt of Turner; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1977; a son, Gary Tetreault; two brothers, Leeman and Lester; a sister, Nettina; a grandson, Robert “Bobby” Leavitt; and several nieces and nephews.
