EXETER, N.H. – Mark C. Stanchfield, 47, of Rye, N.H., died Nov. 13, after a period of failing health.

He attended Great Bay Services in Newington starting at the age of seven. Later coupled with the job training taught there and was employed by that organization for many years.

He participated in Special Olympics, where he excelled in the 50-yard dash, soft ball throw, swimming and long jump. He represented Great Bay Services at the International Olympics in Brockport, N.Y., in August 1979.

He leaves his mother, Lee S. (Blanchard) Appel and his stepfather, J. Leo Appel of Rye; stepmother, Virginia Spaulding of Harrison; his sister, Lynn Curcio and husband, Ron, of Exeter; four stepsisters, Karen Brown and husband, Nicholas, of Carmel, Ind., Dianne Brand and husband, Rob, of Davis, Calif., Gretchen McFarland and husband, Ken, Wendie Leweck and husband, Joe, all of Exeter; two special cousins, Gail Jones and husband, Robert, of Palmyra and Jean Blanchard and husband, David Campbell, of Freeport; and 13 nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Larry J. Stanchfield.
