KINGFIELD – Voters will consider refinancing a bond on the fire station when a special town meeting begins at 6 p.m. Monday at Webster Hall.

The town has an opportunity to save about $40,000 with a lower interest rate on the bond taken out in 2004. The bond covered the purchase of a building that was turned into the town’s fire station, said Administrative Assistant Greg Davis.

About $194,000 is owed on the bond that was secured through a bank instead of the Maine Bond Bank, he added. The meeting is being held to see if voters will approve refinancing the amount to an estimated 3.67 percent interest rate.

Selectmen will hold their regularly scheduled meeting following the town meeting.

Among a number of items on their agenda, the board is expected to appoint a couple new members to the town’s Planning Board to replace those who have recently resigned, Davis said.

The town has recently received resignations from Marianne Stevens, Rose Winter and James Meldrum. Board chair Betty Listowich resigned earlier but will serve till the end of the month.

Normally a seven-member board, three members remain including Clay Tranten, Foster Robinson and Wade Browne. Browne replaced Robert Konieczko, who resigned earlier this year.

A couple new appointments will give the board a quorum although the board’s duties tend to slow down over the winter, he said.
