ROCKPORT – The Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) in Rockport will present a Gallery Talk by artist Dennis Pinette of Belfast about his “Expansion of Logic” exhibition in CMCA’s Loft Gallery on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m.

Pinette, a prolific and passionate painter, has been a convincing proponent of Maine landscape painting that does not respond to the state’s natural beauties, but rather to its industrial, neglected and chaotic elements. Finding beauty in a forest fire, a paper mill, abandoned train cars, or churned up water, Pinette has been reinventing American landscape painting to encompass not just an extended range of subject matter, but also great depth of feeling and almost palpable energy.

Focusing on the subjects of fire and water, “Expansion of Logic” explores Pinette’s trajectory from direct observation to defining sense in seeming chaos. Comprised of watercolors and paintings on paper and canvas, the exhibition shows the artist’s skill and process from quick sketches to imaginary scapes of timelessness.

The gallery talk is included with with admission fee of $5, free for members, Rockport residents and children.
