LEWISTON – Bates College professor of rhetoric Stephanie Kelley-Romano will be the featured presenter at the Great Falls Forum, where she will be analyzing the media’s interactions with Sarah Palin during the recent presidential election. The November forum will be held on Thursday, Nov. 20, at noon in the Marsden Hartley Cultural Center at the Lewiston Public Library. The program is free and no reservations are required.

Kelley-Romano is a specialist in the field of political communication and will be using the GFF podium to conduct a post-mortum of Palin’s campaign, examining everything from the efficacy of her acceptance address at the Republican National Convention to the influence of Tina Fey’s characterizations of her on the irreverent late-night television show “Saturday Night Live.”

Kelley-Romano plans to examine the rhetorical trajectory of Palin during the campaign to help understand why her character and message resonated so strongly with many voters. In addition, she will discuss the way gender affected the quality of critiques in both mainstream and alternative media sources.

Forum attendees are invited to bring brown-bag lunches to the event. Bottled water will be available on site. Alternatively, the library has forged a partnership with She Doesn’t Like Guthries cafe through which attendees can have a custom-made, gourmet sandwich delivered to the library in advance of the talk. Those wishing to take advantage of this option should place their orders by calling the cafe at 376-3344 no later than 7 p.m. on the day before the event.

The Great Falls Forum is co-sponsored by Bates College, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, the Sun Journal and the Lewiston Public Library. More information on Thursday’s lecture or upcoming events in the series is available by contacting us at 513-3135 or at www.lplonline.org.
