Mandarin Chinese taught at academy
FRYEBURG – Mandarin Chinese is in its second academic year as a language offering at Fryeburg Academy.
“China is a major force in the world, and in order for our students to be prepared, they need to know more about the rich and varied Chinese culture and particularly their language,” said Headmaster Dan Lee.
Greg Huang-Dale and his wife, Jenny Huang-Dale, Fryeburg Academy language teachers, have led the Mandarin program.
The Huang-Dales lived and taught in China for a number of years.
Mrs. Huang-Dale studied in China this past summer with the Intensive Summer Language Institute, a training program for American teachers of Chinese language. The program was funded by the U.S. State Department.
Mrs. Huang-Dale said, “I think it’s good for students to learn any foreign language. It exposes them to what’s going on in the world, other cultures and other ways of thinking.”
