This is in response to the letter by William Van Tassel, printed Nov. 13, about the new president.

I am a Christian, not an atheist, an agnostic or a fool. After eight years of President George W. Bush, with the nation’s economy in shambles and the country’s position as a recognized world leader in serious doubt, I, like millions of other Americans, voted for Barack Obama.

I felt that he promised change for the better. It may not happen overnight, but I firmly believe that it will happen.

As an Abraham Lincoln historian, I believe that Lincoln would be very proud of President Obama, because Lincoln was not a racist and judged a man not by his skin color, but by what he had inside him. People should give the new president a chance before judging him.
