I voted against gambling here in Maine because a lot of poor people use their money to gamble in hopes of winning big. Meanwhile, the family goes without the necessities of life; the rent and the bills go unpaid, which accounts for why the economy is so bad.

There is a casino in Bangor. How much revenue has that brought to the state? Furthermore, there are many outlets for lottery tickets, sold daily, that were supposed to bring lots of money. Where has that money gone?

Seems like the state relies on bond money to get things done.

Every state should give communities a financial report of how money was spent during that fiscal year, just as church parishes do. That accounting might prevent fraud, double dipping and embezzling.

Wouldn’t that be better than just blaming government officials for a poor economy?
