NEW GLOUCESTER – A Lewiston woman was killed Friday morning after she drove her car from a restaurant parking lot into the path of a tractor-trailer on Route 100.

Police said Alice Thibeault, 77, of 10 Montello St., died at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston shortly after arrival.

Maine State Police Trooper Michael Smith said Thibeault was leaving Mario’s pizza shop parking lot and drove in front of the tractor-trailer headed north.

The driver of the rig, 52-year-old Melvin Craig, of Brunswick, was not injured. The truck is owned by the Yarmouth Lumber Co. and hit the driver’s side of the van, police said.

Traffic was detoured around the crash site for about four hours and the highway was reopened about 1:30 p.m. A team of five troopers assisted Smith in investigating the crash.

At Mario’s, friends of Thibeault said she was a regular of the restaurant and would often go there on Fridays to have coffee.
