FARMINGTON – Alta Frances Morton, 104, holder of the Boston Gold Cane from the town of Farmington, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Sandy River Center for Health Care in Farmington where she had been a resident since 2001.
She was born on July 4, 1904, in Parsonsfield, the daughter of Addie Dell Taylor Crocker and Merton Crocker.
Flossie, as she was called by her family, attended schools in Augusta and started work at an early age to help support the family, working in shoe, pants and shirt factories.
Married to Paul Morton of Cape Elizabeth in the 1930s, they moved to New Haven, Conn., where she ran a boarding house for Yale University students.
Alta returned to Maine and retired from shoe shops in Auburn in 1970.
Alta enjoyed flower gardening, dancing and sewing. Before moving to Connecticut, she enjoyed modeling for a Portland photographer.
Flossie is survived by several nieces and nephews. Alta’s niece, Patty Curtis, would like to thank the staff at Sandy River, the hospice team from Androscoggin Home Care, Dr. Bien, and nurse practitioner Noreen Comeau for the love, care and concern given to both her and Aunt Flossie.
She was predeceased by her five younger brothers and sisters, Edith Churchill of Fayette, Clayton Crocker of Strong, Glenna Phillips of Livermore Falls, Alfred Crocker of Augusta, and Gladys Sands James of Florida.
