FARMINGTON – Jerome V. Hopson, 85, of Rangeley, formerly of Stratton, died Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Sandy River Center for Rehabilitation.

He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, March 9, 1923, a son of Walter G. and Georgia (Rook) Hopson and was a graduate of UC Berkley with a degree in chemistry in 1950. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and the Naval Reserves and worked as a chemist for the United States Customs Service, retiring in 1978.

In 1978, he and his wife moved to Stratton, where they owned and operated the Widow’s Walk Bed and Breakfast until 2006, and then moved to Rangeley. He was a very active and supportive member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Rangeley.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary, of Rangeley; a son, Jerry Hopson Jr. and his wife, Betsy, of Maryland; three daughters, Alice Peake and her husband, Brian, of Maryland, Lila Monahan and her husband, Jim, of New Hampshire, and Barbara Johnson and her husband, Bill, of New Hampshire; three grandchildren, Jonathan Peak and Cassie and Nicholas Monahan; two sisters, Barbara Feller of Oregon, and Georgia Christley of Texas.
