PORTLAND (AP) – Maine’s unemployment rate inched up one-tenth of a percentage point in October and now stands at 5.7 percent.
The figure was released Monday by state Labor Commissioner Laura Fortman, who said the slowing national economy is affecting the labor market in Maine.
The latest figure is eight-tenths of a point higher than the 4.9 percent jobless rate in October 2007.
The national unemployment rate in October was 6.5 percent, up from 6.1 percent in September and 4.8 percent from the previous year.
