AUBURN – Bjorg Sellevaag Olsen Chayer, of Bradley, died Monday, Nov. 24, at the Clover Health Care.

She was a daughter of Betha and Frithjof Sellevaag, and was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Drammen, Norway. She lived in Norway during World War II, went to business college and continued in nursing at the Red Cross Nursing School.

She worked at Drammen Sykehus Hospital, where she received her training. She moved to the United States in 1957, and was naturalized in 1963. She was a registered nurse and throughout her career she worked in Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Colorado.

One of her greatest desires was to impart her great faith in God to her children. She was a woman of integrity, kindness and strength. She enjoyed nature and was very active in outdoor activities, such as skiing and hiking.

She shared her love of music and dancing with her children. As a gifted knitter, she made her children Norwegian sweaters to acknowledge her heritage, as well as knitting many afghans for her grandchildren. She could always be found with crossword puzzles, a dictionary, encyclopedia, and an atlas nearby, because of her thirst for knowledge.

She made a family, and was “honored” and “blessed” to have been the mother of 11 children.

She is survived by all 11 children, daughters, Cyndi Salisbury and companion, Dan, of Bethel, Cherie Johnson of Newport, R.I., son, Linwood Chayer and his wife, Jan, of Colorado Springs, Colo., daughter, Benet Fadden and husband, Bruce, of Bridgton, son, Lars Olsen and wife, Christine, of Windham, daughter, Sidsel Michaud and husband, Roger, of Bradley, daughter, Wanda Hale and husband, Myron, of Caribou, son, Kevin Chayer and wife, Regina, of Garner, N.C., daughter, Julie Kresge of Fort Collins, Colo., son, Sean Chayer and wife, Joann Machacek, of New Gloucester and daughter, Karen Olsen and husband, Tom, of Parker. Colo.; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. For many years, she enjoyed the companionship of her dog, Bandee.

She was predeceased by her two husbands, Arid Olsen and Arthur Chayer.
