Bruno, who is nine years old, loves to go outside and play with his friends. While outside, he loves to do some exploring. In 1940, Bruno’s father gets promoted; Bruno, his mother, his father, and his annoying sister, Gretel, have to move. Once at his new house, Bruno has nothing to do. He noticed that across the yard and over a tall fence there were people wearing striped pajamas. After a few weeks, Bruno goes exploring. He walks along the fence until he finds a boy named Shumuel who is the same age as him. “There was a dot that turned into a speck, that turned into a blob, that turned into a man, that turned into a boy.” Day after day, Bruno meets Shumuel at the same place at the same time. Throughout the book, Bruno learns extraordinary stuff about the people in the striped pajamas and about himself and some unsettling twists of events take place.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is an astonishing book. There were so many interesting stories about Bruno growing up in their new house. The author shows each character as a person you can personally relate to. I could relate to Bruno in many different ways. I got so attached to the main character. When I was reading, I felt that I was Bruno living his life the way he did. I could not put this book down at all. This book teaches a lesson to enjoy what you can while you can because it might not last long.

I would recommend The Boy in the Striped Pajamas to people who love books where they can connect to the characters and who love to feel as if they are the main character.
