AUGUSTA (AP) – The race for Maine attorney general is down to its final week.
Majority legislative Democrats next Tuesday will nominate one of three candidates for the post. The incumbent, Steve Rowe, is barred from running again because of Maine’s term limits law.
The candidates are Reps. Sean Faircloth of Bangor, Janet Mills of Farmington and John Brautigam of Falmouth, who like Faircloth is finishing a stint in the House. The three are seeking Democrats’ nomination. The attorney general will then be elected by the newly seated Legislature on Dec. 3.
Faircloth said Monday he’s received the endorsement of former Attorney General Michael Carpenter, who was Maine’s chief state lawyer from 1990 to 1994, and now practices law in Houlton.
