AVON – Steven “Steve” Weiner, 62, of Avon, died Monday, Nov. 24. at his home.

He was born in Bronx, N.Y., on Nov. 6, 1946, a son of Morton and Betty Weiner and received his education in New York schools, graduating from Deer Park High School. He worked as a truck driver delivering apples for many years before moving to Avon, where he served as tax collector since the early 1990s, a position he currently held.

Steve was a straight talker and had a good sense of humor. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others and worked to make the residents of Avon and the surrounding communities happy. “He did it his way!”

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, whom he married in 1974; their daughter, Jennifer Godwin and her husband, Joseph of Illinois; two stepdaughters, Sandi Montanya and her husband, Lonnie, of New York, and Darlene Reed of New York; his father, Morton of New Jersey; brother, Richard of New York; two sisters, Carol of Florida, and Frances of New Jersey; five grandchildren, Melissa, Lonnie Jr., Jessica, Joseph and Elizabeth; two great-grandchildren, Cerise and Alyssa.

He was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Nancy Reed.
