LISBON – Wilfred “Willie” J. Libbe Jr., 73, of Lisbon, died Friday, Nov. 21, at his home.
He was born in the Bronx in New York City, on Dec. 22, 1934, a son of the late Wilfred and Wilma Libbe Sr. He eventually moved to Maine with his family.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy in the early 1950s and was selected to receive the honor of serving on the U.S. Navy Honor Guard in Washington, D.C. He then fulfilled his sea duty on the USS Ticonderoga.
Willie was a retired Auburn firefighter, having faithfully served for 25 years. He also worked at Bradco Chair Co. for many years, where he was a very skilled furniture maker. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a die-hard Red Sox fan as well. He was an honest man and will be sadly missed by family and friends.
He leaves his longtime companion, Paulette Pessant; his son, Jeffrey Libbe and his companion, Lisa Thurlow; his daughter, Debra and husband, Maurice C. Hyde Jr.; his granddaughter, Jennifer Lee; his great-granddaughter, McKenzie Boucher; his sisters, Laura Audet, Rose Libbe and Wilma Woodsome; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat “T.J.”
He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Veilleux; and brother, Ernest Libbe.
