LEWISTON – The Twin Cities’ Downtown Holiday Celebration on Wednesday, Dec. 3, will kick off with some free activities for youngsters at Lewiston Public Library.

At 4 p.m., there will be a festively costumed “Victorian Nutcracker” ballet show-and-tell program in Callahan Hall on the third floor of the library. This half-hour event will feature brief excerpts from the Portland Ballet’s upcoming production of “Victorian Nutcracker,” performed by eight student dancers, ages 10 to 17, from the cast of that show.

From 4:30 to 5:30, youngsters will be invited next-door into the activity room of the library’s children’s department to participate in a craft workshop. Members of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council will assist them in making antler headpieces and bead jewelry.

A colorful model train display featuring Thomas the Tank Engine will be set up and operated by members of the Great Falls Model Railroad Club from 3:30 to 7 p.m. in the library’s lower lobby. An adjacent play area will be stocked with railroad toys for children to enjoy during their visit.
