LEWISTON – Arthur H. Westleigh, 82, of Poland, died Friday, Nov. 28, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Born in New Sharon on Dec. 18, 1925, the son of Francis and Stella Brown Westleigh. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II, and following his honorable discharge in 1946, he received his GED from Lewiston High School. In 1947, he married the former Paulette Roy and they made their home in Lewiston and Poland.
Arthur worked as an electrician for many years and was employed by CMP, Long Island Light and Power, Brunswick Naval Air Station and the Topsham Air Force Station. A member of Sacred Heart Parish, he also belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Lewiston from 1960 on, serving as local chapter president in 1979 and 1990, state president in 1970 and 1988, and regional president in 1975.
He loved to fly and for many years had a private pilot’s license, and also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons.
In his retirement, he developed a passion for restoring antique cars and was known for the quality and accuracy of his work.
Besides his loving wife of 61 years; he is survived by two sons, Paul and wife, Cathy, of Lewiston and Michael and wife, Gloria, of Lewiston; a daughter, Susan and husband, Michael Bouchard, of Lewiston; two brothers, Roland and wife, Jeannine, of Auburn and Milford and wife, Frances, of Lewiston; four sisters, Margaret Larrabee of Norway and Charlotte Doucette, Florence Nyulaszi and Georgette Brooks, all of Lewiston; eight grandchildren, Jonathan A. and Rebecca Westleigh, Jessica and Dacia Bouchard, Benjamin and Nathan Westleigh, Sabrina and husband, Bob Bureau, and Christian Westleigh; and two great-grandchildren, Sage Carpenter and Jonathan C.B. Westleigh.
Besides his parents; he was predeceased by three brothers, Kenneth, Sherlon and Albert; and a sister, Arlene Jordan.
