GRAY – Even though the suspect turned himself in on Sunday, police are continuing to investigate a Saturday night incident that led to a county-wide manhunt in Cumberland County.
Maine State Police Trooper Christopher Farley said Michael Mains, 40, of 3 Old Elder Road, Gray, turned himself in around 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the state police headquarters in Gray after seeing himself on the Channel 13 TV news. Authorities across Cumberland County were searching for Mains Saturday after receiving a complaint alleging that Mains assaulted his girlfriend at her home on Rod Road in Gray about 7 p.m. and fled before police arrived. Farley said Mains was seen leaving the residence with an assault rifle, but did not have a weapon when he turned himself in on Sunday.
Mains was arrested and charged with domestic violence assault. The case remains under investigation.
