LEWISTON – A meeting for people opposing the Maine Power Reliability Program proposed by Central Maine Power Co. for new transmission lines will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Multi-Purpose Center, 145 Birch St.

Jeff Madore of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Land and Water Quality will be available to address concerns.

Participants plan to talk about the impact of herbicides and chemicals used in the control of vegetation along transmission lines, and the possible encroachment of chemicals into wells and aquifers of abutting property owners.

Concerns have also been raised about clear-cutting, erosion and noise pollution. The meeting is open to the public. For more information, contact Joe Nota, 783-6839.
