Boy, have times changed. But I guess that is what was wanted by the voters in this past election.
Here we go: more than a quarter of a million dollars has been allocated from the feds to make over the Height of Land overlook in Rangeley.
Hasn’t that lookout served the public well just the way it is? Why are we wasting all this tax money on a lookout? If this national financial disaster continues, there won’t be many who can afford to drive there to take a look, anyway.
This is typical of government in tough economic times.
Spend more money on make-work items and keep government people employed. Never mind that hundreds of thousands of production workers are being furloughed or laid off due to the slow response of the economic recovery.
Do you suppose it is the uncertainty we have in government, and government is creating by their inaction to correct this financial disaster in a timely manner, that is making this recession worse? We need productive jobs, not make-work public works jobs. That quarter of a million dollars would be better used for patching in the many potholes of Maine roads that currently exist.
We all see many more potholes in our travels, than Height of Land overlooks.
