AUBURN – Claris A. Scronkus, 93, of Lewiston passed away peacefully on Nov. 29, at Clover Manor Nursing home.

A lifelong resident of Maine, she was one of 10 children of Archie C. and Sarah Whittemore Adams. She was born on the family farm in Solon on Jan. 6, 1915. She graduated from Solon High School and also attended beautician school in Augusta.

After moving to Lewiston in 1941, she was employed by B. Peck & Co. department store, Ward Bros. women’s clothing store, Henry Nolin Jewelers and finally J. Dostie Jewelers, from which she retired after many years of loyal service.

She was married to Anthony Scronkus on July 4, 1937. He died on March 30, 1968. She was a lovely, spirited and energetic woman who enjoyed traveling with friends and family to Old Orchard Beach and to watch her beloved Red Sox at Fenway Park. But her favorite place was her cozy white and green two-story home at 356 College St. in Lewiston, where she lived for more than 60 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Jourard and husband, Julian, of Tiburon, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

She is fondly remembered by Jennifer and Jason Robustelli, who spent many happy childhood afternoons in her nurturing care.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by four brothers, Oliver, Archie, Clayton and Clarence; and five sisters, Hallie, Elsie, Virginia, Olive and Miriam.

Thank-you to the staff at Clover Manor in Auburn for their dedicated care and support.
