Board: Minot selectmen
Met Monday night
Water Filtration System
Issue: Test results on water from the well serving the Minot consolidated school show arsenic levels at between 11 and 15 parts per billion, exceeding the 10 parts per billion allowed for public drinking water.
The scoop: Selectman Steve French reported that a filtration system to reduce arsenic levels has been installed and is in operation. The cost of the filtration system, installed and ready to go, is $27,750.
Up next: French said water will be tested to determine if this has cured the arsenic problem.
Town cemetery
Issue: With available space in cemeteries around town in short supply the town recently acquired 16 acres of land adjacent to the center Minot Hill Cemetery and is about to begin its development.
The scoop: Selectmen are seeking bids for cutting, stumping, chipping and clearing three acres of the 16-acre parcel. They want the clearing completed by March 1. Details on bidding requirements are available at the town office.
College scholarships
Issue: Each January, selectmen award scholarships from the Arthur Harris Scholarship, the Roland and Noella Hemond Scholarship and the Lenard Simion and Elsa Simion Fortin Scholarship funds.
The scoop: Selectmen announced that college students from Minot have until Jan. 9 to file applications for scholarships from the funds. As criteria for the selection of scholarship winners vary, interested students should contact the town office, at 345-3305, for further details and proper applications.
Road closure
The scoop: Selectmen approved closing Pottle Hill Road, from Woodman Hill Road (Route 119) to Verrill Road on Sunday from 7 a.m. to about 7 p.m. so the fire department can train at a building on Pottle Hill Road.
Town reports
The scoop: Selectmen awarded the bid for printing this year’s town report to Park Street Press of South Paris for $2.69 per copy.
Budget Committee
The scoop: Selectmen accepted the resignation of budget committee member Ed Haley and appointed Tim Worden in his place. They thanked Haley for his service.
