AUGUSTA (AP) – Maine’s Legislature passed a resolution denouncing acts and suggested acts of hate and violence in reaction to postelection incidents suggesting violence against President-elect Barack Obama.

There was no opposition to the joint resolution, which won passage by the newly seated House and Senate hours after the members were sworn into office.

Democratic Sen. Bill Diamond of Windham introduced the nonbinding resolution a month after a sign appeared in a Standish store inviting customers to bet on a date when President-elect Obama would be killed.

15-month-old dies in his sleep

LEBANON (AP) – Maine State Police are investigating the death of a 15-month-old boy who died in his sleep at his family’s home in Lebanon.

Spokesman Steve McCausland said the death of Ty Gilpatrick is not considered suspicious. State police investigate every death involving a child under 3.

Man accused of biting trooper

BELFAST (AP) – A 21-year-old Belfast man who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, walked off with their baby and bit state trooper Don Webber who tried to arrest him is in hot water with the law.

Lee Vernon Williams was taken to Waldo County Jail following his arrest Sunday on charges of domestic violence assault, assault on an officer, refusing to submit to arrest, violation of bail conditions, refusing to sign a summons, and criminal mischief.

The police report said Williams bit Trooper Don Webber after officers managed to take the year-old child from the suspect’s grasp.
